Sail Rock (Hin Bia) is one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand. Located 2 hours boat trip south of
Koh Tao. Sail Rock starts as a rock protruding from the surface and then stretches out underwater ending at a depth of 40m in the deepest parts.
Sail Rock is like as oasis in the open water with many schools of small fish
attracting the medium sized fish to school and in turn bringing in the large predatory fish.
At Sail Rock you are likely to see big schools of fusiliers, jacks, snappers, barracudas, bat fish and scads, along with the larger giant groupers, Spanish mackerels, rainbow runners and queen fish, hunting.
Closer to the rock itself there are giant moray eels, box fish, rays and many different types of shrimps and pipefish. For those looking for sharks there is always a good chance of bull or grey reef sharks and for those really lucky maybe even an encounter with a whale shark.
The dive site is also famous for its vertical chimney, a swim through that starts at 5m and exits at 17m a fun and exciting way to begin your descent into the playground that is Sail Rock.
At Sairee Cottage Diving we head out this amazing dive site once a week on Wednesdays. The trip consists of 2 dives on Sail Rock and 1 dive on San Ram pinnacle.
Also included with the trip is breakfast, lunch, refreshments (tea, coffee, water, and fruits), all your equipment hire and an experienced dive leader to show you around the dive sites.
The price of the trip is only 3,000 Baht and is a must do for anyone coming to Koh Tao. We also highly recommend using NITROX for this trip to maximize your bottom time for those not certified as NITROX divers you can arrange this half day course before the trip form only 3,000 Baht.
