Hi. Welcome to my weekly photo blog. Each week I will pick my favourite photo of that week at Sairee Cottage Diving and explain why its my favourite and how I took it.

For my first blog I have chosen this picture of a Malabar Grouper. Its far from the best picture i’ve ever taken but I chose this one because of how the grouper just seemed to pose for his photo shoot.

“I’m ready for my close up”.

It was a day of bad weather for diving, big waves and little visibilty. Near the end of the dive we found this grouper, the biggest and most fearless grouper I have seen since the Cod Hole in the Great Barrier Reef. This monster grouper had no fear and just stayed there as I swam around it snapping away. I managed to carefully swim right up without bothering him and get some really close up shots. After a while he lost intrest in me and casually swam off. It made a dive that I thought would result in no pictures great fun. The dive site was South West Pinnacle, Koh Tao.

I take my pictures on a basic point and shoot using a lumix tz7. Even with these simple cameras you can get some great shots.

Although I said this would be a weekly blog I am going back to the UK for 2 weeks so my blog shall return when back on Koh Tao.  In the mean time you can see more photos on our Facebook page here:  https://www.facebook.com/SaireeCottageDivingKohTao

  1. Photography under the water seems very mysterious to me. This photo is also interesting as it is the Photo of the week. Thanks for this article.
